For the purposes of UK and Singapore data-protection law, NewMediaWorld Pte. Ltd. is the data controller.
2. What data we collect
We collect and use your personal data only for the purposes described in this policy and, where required, with your consent or another lawful basis permitted by applicable law.
- Information you provide — email address (when you subscribe), and optionally the city you're reading from and the topic of the guide that triggered the subscribe.
- Usage data — pages visited, time on site, referral source, device type and browser. Collected via cookies and analytics tools only with your consent.
- Communication data — any information you include when you contact us by email.

We do not use your personal data for any purpose other than those described above. If we wish to use your data for a new purpose, we will notify you and, where required, seek your consent.
4. Newsletter emails
We send newsletter emails only where you have explicitly subscribed via a form on this site. You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or emailing hello@thetropicalpet.com. We will stop sending newsletter emails without delay, in compliance with PECR.
5. Cookies and tracking
We use cookies on this site. Consent for cookies is separate from consent for newsletter emails. In accordance with PECR, we do not set optional cookies (analytics or affiliate-tracking) until you have given consent via our cookie banner. Essential cookies are exempt as they are strictly necessary.

When you click an affiliate link, the destination site may set its own cookies. We do not share your email address or other personal data with affiliate partners.
7. International transfers
Your personal data may be transferred to and processed outside the UK and Singapore. Where data is transferred outside the UK we rely on the UK international data transfer agreement (UK IDTA) or standard contractual clauses approved by the ICO. Where data is transferred outside Singapore the recipients are required to provide a comparable standard of protection, in line with PDPA Section 26.
8. Retention
- Newsletter subscribers — retained until you unsubscribe, plus 30 days for processing and removal from all systems.
- Lead-magnet email captures — retained as newsletter subscribers if you opted in; otherwise deleted within 30 days of magnet delivery.
- Analytics data — aggregated and pseudonymised by Google Analytics; retained for up to 26 months (Google's default retention period).
- Contact enquiries — retained for up to 12 months after our last communication, then deleted.
We do not retain personal data longer than necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
9. Your rights
Under UK GDPR and Singapore PDPA you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you
- Request rectification of inaccurate data
- Request erasure of your data (right to be forgotten under UK GDPR; withdrawal of consent under PDPA)
- Request restriction of processing
- Data portability (UK GDPR)
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or the Singapore Personal Data Protection Commission (pdpc.gov.sg)

10. Children
This site is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email to subscribers. The date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
